The“Fit for Life” back
injury recovery program
If you suffer from:
•
Low back pain
•
Back stiffness and reduced range of motion
•
Pain spreading into the buttocks and thighs
•
Pain radiating from the buttock to the foot
•
Sensory changes (numbness, prickling or tingling) in
the leg, foot, or toes
You may have one
of these common low back conditions:
Musuclar Back Pain: This is the most
common cause of back pain and is due to muscular strains.
This happens when an unexpected force such as a twist
or pull creates tears in the muscle tissue. These muscular
tears cause pain felt in the low back.
Degenerative Disc Disease:
The discs between each vertebrae become thinner, stiffer
and weaker over time, and as a result they cannot absorb
forces as well. Routine stress and strain begin to take
a toll on the structures of the spine. Pain caused by
degenerative disc disease primarily results from the
parts of the spine that move with activity, including
the discs, ligaments and facet joints. Movement within
these weakened structures causes them to become irritated
and painful.
Herniated Disc: Intervetebral
discs fit between each vertebra and provide a space
between the spine bones. The disc acts like a shock
absorber. A herniated disc occurs when the nucleus (the
spongy center) of the disc herniates completely through
the tough outer ring of cartilage. This can cause lower
back pain and/or radiating pain down one or both legs.
This radiating pain is often called sciatica.
Lumbar Spinal Stenosis:
The spinal canal usually has ample room for the spinal
nerves. This canal has a diameter equal to that of a
penny. When the spinal canal shrinks by more than 33%,
severe symptoms of lumbar stenosis can occur. This shrinking
of the canal is caused by herniated or degenerating
discs, bone spurs or thickened ligaments. Theses conditions
reduce the space available for the spinal nerves. Symptoms
from stenosis rarely develop quickly and occur more
commonly in people over age 50. Patients with stenosis
don’t always feel back pain. Often they have pain
and weakness in their legs that develops after standing
too long or after walking a short distance. Most patients
get relief from their symptoms when they sit down.
Piriformis Syndrome:
The piriformis muscle lies under the large buttock muscles
and helps to turn your foot and leg outward. Problems
with this muscle can cause compression of the sciatic
nerve because the sciatic nerve runs under (and sometimes
through) the piriformis muscle. This compression causes
pain in the buttock area and radiating pain down the
back of the leg.
Your solution starts
with our
extensive training and experience
The ProFitness “Fit for Life” Back
Injury Recovery Program is led by some of the most experienced
physical therapists in the region. In fact, over the
course of more than two decades, our team has successfully
rehabilitated thousands of back injury patients using
the most effective tools and techniques available. But
that’s not the best part.
Your key advantage
is our 100%
focused, one-on-one care
Because our goal is to help every patient achieve
a fast, full and lasting recovery, we are committed
to giving 100% of our expertise and effort to every
patient at all times. This means that your dedicated
physical therapist works one-on-one with you through
every minute of every rehab session – providing
expert assessment and guidance, and constant encouragement
and support.
In other rehab facilities, you may not
always work with the same physical therapist, or you
may work with a PT assistant instead. And often, your
therapist may work with several other patients at the
same time. These factors can make it difficult to get
the level of care you need to achieve a full and fast
recovery.
That’s why our rehab care is always
provided ONE therapist to ONE patient. ONE at a time.
EVERY TIME. It’s the ProFitness AdvantageSM. And
it’s what helps us achieve such excellent results.

| “I
came in with excruciating pain in my right leg.
I could hardly walk. My doctor diagnosed me with
a slipped disc and sciatica. After a few physical
therapy sessions I felt like my life was back to
normal. My husband was so impressed with my improvement
that now he’s coming to ProFitness for therapy.”
